Loren S. Funt, MD
Loren S. Funt, MD

Dr. Funt is a board certified dermatologist who has practiced in Pittsburgh for over 30 years.

Dr. Funt graduated from George Washington University Medical School following a combined 3-year college and a 4-year medical school program. He subsequently fulfilled a one year internship in Washington, DC with the VA Hospital associated with Georgetown Hospital. Dr. Funt completed his dermatology residency in Detroit, Michigan at Henry Ford Hospital, a University of Michigan affiliated hospital.

Dr. Funt served as an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for over 20 years. He has lectured dermatology residents on a regular basis at UPMC, University of Michigan, Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City and Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. In addition, Dr. Funt teaches dermatology to Washington Family Hospital Practice residents.

Dr. Funt lives in Mt. Lebanon with his wife, Jackie, and their 3 dogs. The Funts have 4 grown children.

Gretchen Kreizenbeck, MD
Gretchen Kreizenbeck, MD

Dr. Kreizenbeck is a board certified dermatologist and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and Women’s Dermatologic Society.


Dr. Kreizenbeck is from Deadwood, South Dakota and recently moved to Pittsburgh from Connecticut after establishing her work in both medical and cosmetic dermatology.   While an undergraduate, she spent a semester overseas researching the psychological effects of undergoing a lung transplant through the Notre Dame London Undergraduate Program.  She graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2003 and received both the Merck Index and Student Leadership awards from the University of Notre Dame.

While a medical student at the Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Kreizenbeck completed her thesis in the field of melanoma.  After accepting the Max Kade Clinical Clerkship she studied in Salzburg, Austria and graduated in 2007 as a Yale Farr Scholar.  She chose to remain in New Haven to complete her internship at the Yale Primary Care Program.  She completed her residency in dermatology with the Yale Dermatology Residency Program in 2011 after completing a brief elective at the University of San Francisco through an award received from the Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentorship program. 

Her dermatologic specialties include adult and pediatric medical dermatology (including acne, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss, and skin cancer screening and treatment), surgical excisions; and cosmetic procedures including Botox, fillers, and laser therapy.  She lives in northern Upper St. Clair with her husband, 2 young children, and 2 "dog-like" cats.
Susan L. Safyan, MD
Susan L. Safyan, MD

Dr. Safyan is a board certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Safyan is a native of Los Angeles, California, who moved to Pittsburgh in 1987. She received a Bachelor of Science from UCLA, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, with highest honors in biochemistry. During her undergraduate years she received the University of California's prestigious Regents Scholarship. While at the UCLA School of Medicine she was named The Graduate Woman of the Year, was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society, and was again awarded the University of California Regents Scholarship.

Following her graduation from medical school in 1981, she completed an internship in internal medicine and a dermatology residency at UCLA. Dr, Safyan has been in practice for over 25 years.

Jason G. Whalen, MD
Jason G. Whalen, MD

Dr. Whalen is a board certified dermatologist who has practiced in Pittsburgh for 7 years. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology and is on staff at St. Clair Hospital.

Dr. Whalen received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pensylvania State University in 1995 where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with distinction. He graduated in 2002 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Cum Laude, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. Dr Whalen fulfilled his one year internship at Mercy Hospital in the Internal Medicine Department. 

He completed his residency at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology and was an Assistant Course Director for second year medical students. While in residence, Dr. Whalen's research was published in many dermatology journals. Dr. Whalen lives in the South Hills with his wife, Elaine, and their 2 daughters.

Nicole E. Funt, MPAS, PA-C
Nicole E. Funt, MPAS, PA-C

Nicole E. Funt, MPAS, PA-C has been a practicing Physician Assistant for 14 years. She graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University in 1997, where she completed a Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from Chatham University in 1999.

Nicole joined Mt. Lebanon Dermatology, PC in July of 2005. Her previous clinical experience includes 6 years in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She has also worked in the Emergency Department at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

In addition to dermatology, Nicole’s interests include academic medicine. She completed an online teaching fellowship in 2002. She served as Adjunct Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program at Chatham University from 2002 to 2003, and as Assistant Professor of Physician Assistant Studies from 2003 to 2005. She enjoys precepting students and Family Practice residents at Mt. Lebanon Dermatology.

Nicole lives in Mt. Lebanon with her husband, Matthew, their son, Harrison, their daughters, Adeline and Emma, and their dogs E.J. and Lilly.

Katie O'Brien, MPAS, PA-C
Katie O'Brien, MPAS, PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant who has been specializing in dermatology for the past five years.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Katie received her Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University in 2009 and went on to obtain her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.

Katie is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, The Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants, and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

When she is not working, Katie enjoys spending time with her family. She lives in Scott Township with her husband, two sons, and Boxer dog.
